How do you clean a wooden cutting board?

Wood cutting boards are best cleaned with a mild soap and warm water to remove any potential for bacteria from food. Towel dry the board after washing and leave to dry on its side so that it’s not flat to prevent warping. Providing air flow around the board is key. Learn more about wood care.

What is the best type of wood for a cutting board?

Cutting boards should be made from hardwoods. We use cherry, walnut, and sometimes maple. As long as you have a hard wood for your cutting board, it really comes down to personal style as each wood type naturally varies in color.

Do wood cutting boards hold bacteria?

Hard woods are naturally antibacterial because wood contains antimicrobial compounds (so they are safer than plastic cutting boards), however, it is always important to wash or wipe your wooden board after each use.

How do you remove scratches from a wooden cutting board?

You don’t. Cutting boards are the perfect forgiving surface for knives and when you chop or cut on a wood surface, the board will show knife marks. The point is, you’ve protected your knife blade from dulling and your wood cutting board becomes even more unique over time with use.

How do you protect the bark on a live edge cutting board?

There is no actual bark on our live edge cutting boards. We remove the bark and finish our cutting boards so that they have that look and feel of a natural edge, but without the actual bark being present.

Can you put a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher?

Please, no! Wooden products in a dishwasher cause the grain to swell and you will cause irreparable harm to the product. Warping, cracking, and discoloration are all common consequences.

Can you put a wooden cutting board in the oven?

NO. This is considered an unsafe practice.

How do you get onion smell out of a wood cutting board?

Removing the onion (and garlic) smell from a wood cutting board takes some effort. Try using a sprinkle of baking soda on the board, and then squeeze a half of a lemon. Scrub the board and then rinse with warm water.

How do you get a stain out of a wood cutting board?

The best way to prevent stains is by washing your new wooden product immediately when you get it, and reapply Andrew Pearce Refined Walnut Wood Oil. You are much less likely to experience staining after taking this initial, protective step.

How often should I oil my wood cutting board?

Periodically reconditioning your wood cutting board with Andrew Pearce Refined Walnut Wood Oil will preserve the finish and protect the board. We recommend wood oil application approximately every 3-4 months. If the board is being washed on a regular basis, we suggest oiling your board on a more regular basis, or when it begins to look dull.
