This massive Ash burl was pulled out of the woods in Sharon, VT by Andrew (and a large tractor). It reminds us of the many mysterious igloo-shaped stone structures which are scattered around Vermont. Over 200 have been discovered to date. The largest known one (Calendar II) is just down the road in South Woodstock.
Many of these constructions have some sort of astronomical significance and have been placed to align with the vernal equinox or winter solstice such as Calendar II and Calendar I not far from where this burl was harvested.
Although not nearly as old as these structures, this ancient magnificent Ash burl is our biggest so far and has seen hundreds of hours of carving, sculpting, and sanding to reveal its beauty.
