THE OIL BEHIND EVERY ANDREW PEARCE BOARD AND BOWL

Our premium, non-toxic, food-safe, and allergen-free walnut wood oil will maintain the natural beauty and integrity of your cherished unfinished wood items. Perfect as a cutting board oil or salad bowl oil, our product is preferred over mineral oil by home cooks and professional chefs alike.

It's time to recondition your wood product when it feels or looks dry. Liberally wipe on Andrew Pearce Walnut Wood Oil with a soft, lint-free cloth. The more you wash your wooden bowl or board, the more often you will want to recondition it.

Our specially formulated walnut oil is high in linoleic acid and is heat-treated to make it oxidize faster. It penetrates deep into the wood grain and then hardens, giving you a longer-lasting finish that will not evaporate like mineral oil finishes. Walnut oil hardens into a food-safe, satin finish for bowls, untreated butcher block, utensils, and other natural wood products. We do not recommend for use on furniture. It is a slow-drying oil that will cure faster in a warmer environment, although room temperature is typically best. We do not suggest using vegetable oils to recondition your wooden products as they may contain ingredients known to create a culture in which bacteria can thrive.

By investing in proper wood care, you extend the life of each Andrew Pearce piece by decades—reducing waste, honoring the craftsmanship, and ensuring your heirlooms are passed down rather than discarded.

Wood Oil Application

How do I clean and maintain my wooden boards and bowls?
Hand-wash with warm, soapy water and dry immediately with a soft cloth. When the wood begins to look dull or feel dry, apply a light coat of our Refined Walnut Wood Oil, let it penetrate for a few minutes, then buff away the excess and allow to dry for at least six hours. This simple ritual keeps your bowl beautiful for generations.
Can I use soap to wash wooden bowls and boards?
Yes. A small amount of mild dish soap and warm water is perfectly safe. Just wash gently, rinse quickly, and dry right away. Never leave your bowls or boards soaking in the sink, as prolonged exposure to water can cause the wood to swell and crack over time.
Why can't wooden bowls and boards go in the dishwasher?
The extreme heat and high-pressure water of a dishwasher will strip the wood of its protective oils, causing the fibers to swell, warp, and eventually crack. Hand-washing is the only way to protect your woodenware and ensure it remains an heirloom.
What is the best oil for protecting a wooden bowl or board?
We recommend our Refined Walnut Wood Oil, a premium, non-toxic, food-safe finish made specifically for fine woodenware. Unlike standard vegetable oils, which can turn rancid, our oil is heat-treated to be shelf-stable. It penetrates deep into the hardwood fibers, leaving a beautiful, lasting luster that protects against moisture, odors, and stains.
How often should I oil my woodenware?
We recommend oiling your wooden bowls and boards whenever they begin to look dull or feel dry to the touch. For pieces in regular use, this is typically once a month. A fresh coat of our Refined Walnut Wood Oil keeps the wood nourished, vibrant, and ready to serve at its best.
